Allergic To The Fineprint…

I got a phone call from a very upset friend of mine who was having a bad reaction to the allergy medication that he’d been taking. Last time I checked; I did not have a degree in medicine, not even one from a Cracker Jack box so I had no idea why my friend was calling me instead of the emergency squad. But be that as it may, I felt obligated to at least try and help him. So I asked him:
“How come you’re having a bad reaction when you’ve been taking allergy medicine for years with no problems?” He then informed me that he had done as a great many Americans have begun doing lately; he cheerfully joined the ranks of the human guinea pigs. He tried a new medication that he had seen on a television commercial. This is a true story… partially

“911…Can You Hold Please?”

What if armed bad guys broke into your home and had you trapped? What if you then risked life and limb to get to your phone so that you could call for help? What if your only hope was to call 911? What if you called them and got a recording that said “I’m sorry but we can’t get to the phone right now…”? That would probably be a nightmare in anybody’s book right? Well thank God that is not the case where we live. 911 is a Emergency Response Service and they are good at what they do. However I recently had an experience with another type of emergency response service that made me re-examine my understanding of the word Emergency.

The Terminator comes to Wal-Mart

I was watching a documentary recently where this guy made the statement that “Future technology is upon us; it is warm, fuzzy and has razor sharp teeth. If we don’t start fighting back now, soon it will be too late.” I thought to myself: “Geez this guy is really paranoid.” But something happened to me the other day that has forever changed my perspective of the world and technology. This is a true story…partially.

I was sitting in front of my television a few nights ago just flipping through the channels, when I happened upon one of my all time favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger movies: “The Terminator”. In case you’re one of the eight people in the United States that hasn’t seen this movie, I will give you a brief rundown of the plot: Man creates technology, technology advances and tries to take over the world. As I watched the movie, it occurred to me that in the 25 years since “The Terminator” hit the big screen, this story has become more true to life than I had ever realized.

Raise My Taxes Please

 

I used to hate the thought of paying taxes about as much as the next guy. But something very strange happened to me the other day that changed all that. This is a true story… partially.

 

It all began one day when I was out looking for work. I was driving around when I came upon this odd little building that I usually just drive past and never really pay any attention to. On this particular day I decided to go inside this building to see if they were hiring. The friendly woman at the counter gave me an application and invited me to have a seat in the lobby to fill it out. As I was sitting there I couldn’t help but overheard the most ridiculous, angriest argument that I’d heard in a long time. As the conversation grew louder I got curious and looked up to see what the commotion was all about. I was shocked to discover that there was only one other person in the lobby besides me.
