Power

I think that identical twins are so fascinating. As a child I remember wishing that I had a twin brother; one that would take all my school exams for me and whenever I got into trouble he would be the one to take the blame. As I‘ve gotten and somewhat wiser I’ve come to realize that things don’t exactly work that way. I have also learned that regardless of what we look like on the outside it’s what’s on the inside that makes us who we are. This is a true story…partially. Continue reading

Do you see what I see?

The recent bad weather had me snowed-in last weekend. By the time the roads were clear, I had become full blown stir-crazy. Desperately needing to get out & rejoin civilization, I decided that a trip to the nearby planetarium might do the trick. So I jumped into my car and headed off for what would become the adventure of a lifetime. This story is too unbelievable to be true, but it did happen…partially.

BACK TO SCHOOL SPECIAL

Despite what my television tells me night after night, I believe that there is a ton of beauty in the world. It’s not buried under a rock or hidden deep in a cave, its right in front of our very eyes – if we’d only take the time out to see and appreciate it. And yet there is also a need for much improvement in our society. At times it would almost appear that we as a species are going backwards rather than making progress. I took a vacation recently and learned one of the most important lessons of my life. This is a true story…partially. Continue reading

Twist of Fate

It was fast-food night for the Pillow family and someone suggested we have Mexican Food, so we did. And it was delicious. So delicious in fact that I woke up in the middle of the night just to finish off that last burrito that was sitting in my fridge. Afterward I went back to bed and awakened to the craziest day of my life. This is probably the truest story I’ve ever told…partially. Continue reading

It’s A Mad, Mad World

Have you ever uttered any of the following phrases? “That guy is a psycho.” “That was a pretty crazy thing to do.” “Only a nutcase would do a thing like that?” Chances are you have. These days it is almost commonplace to make references to other people with terms formerly associated strictly with the mentally challenged. I believe that this is happening for the following two reasons: 1. Because of the increased socially acceptability of slang in the average American’s vocabulary; and 2. Because of the increase of actual instances of mental illness in our society. If you think that mentally challenged people are only those folks that you can spot a mile away then I’ve got news for you. Today there is a new breed of mentally ill people. They look just like you and me and they’re everywhere. You might even be one of them. I have compiled an easy method of identifying them. This is a true story…partially.

The Secret to a Successful New Year

I woke up this morning and there she was standing in the middle of my bedroom, staring at me. She must have been happy to see me because she had a big smile on her face. Even though I hadn’t invited her over; there she was, ready or not: 2010 was here in all her glory welcoming me into her strange, new world. This is a true story… mostly. Continue reading

Change Is Coming…

Since the beginning of time, man has been fascinated with the future. People have been trying every way imaginable; from the scientific to the silly to find a way to get a sneak peek into tomorrow. But has any of this brought us any real insight into what lies just up the road for us? This is a strange but true story…partially. Continue reading

What’s In A Name?

Everybody has a name; and luck of the draw being what it is I ended up with a funny sounding… I mean unique one. I have one of those names that some folks would call distinctive, which is another way of saying that it’s a not very common. As a youngster my mom would tell me that I had a distinguished name whenever I came home from school upset because my classmates would tease me about my name. ‘PillowTalk’ is the name that they used to callme and then they’d all laugh at me. I would sometimes have to hold back the tears. Over the years I have learned to accept and take pride in my name and in the process I have gained a lot more than I bargained for. This is a true story…partially.

Allergic To The Fineprint…

I got a phone call from a very upset friend of mine who was having a bad reaction to the allergy medication that he’d been taking. Last time I checked; I did not have a degree in medicine, not even one from a Cracker Jack box so I had no idea why my friend was calling me instead of the emergency squad. But be that as it may, I felt obligated to at least try and help him. So I asked him:
“How come you’re having a bad reaction when you’ve been taking allergy medicine for years with no problems?” He then informed me that he had done as a great many Americans have begun doing lately; he cheerfully joined the ranks of the human guinea pigs. He tried a new medication that he had seen on a television commercial. This is a true story… partially

I Have A Dream…

I’m Drew Pillow average guy. I’m not a great orator or politician or anything like that; I’m just a simple man with simple wants and occasionally simple dreams like the one I had the other day. This is a true story… partially.

I dreamt that:
I had dinner with my mother in law and actually enjoyed myself
My kids asked for fruit after dinner instead of snacks
The tobacco industry decided to remove the 500 unlisted addictive chemicals from cigarettes
Took my car to the mechanic and they only fixed what was wrong with it for a fair price
Went to the doctor and he didn’t know what was wrong so he didn’t charge me.
The bookstore started a policy that if I buy a book and it sucks I can bring it back and get a refund Continue reading
